STC
is active in environmental health solutions both domestic and
international. Projects and expertise range from consulting and
planning to development and deployment of environmental health tracking
systems. A few examples include:
Bermuda
STC
created EH-Web to support Bermuda's environmental health tracking and
response. The system streamlines data entry and incorporates the
functions of investigation, inspection, record keeping, GIS
capabilities, and administration.
Complaints/events are logged for case investigation and
follow up. The system is then used to process investigation data in
order to correlate disease reports and manage environmental health
events.
CDC's Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) Network
STC worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),
Northrop Grumman, and several local clients to design and develop a
nationwide EPHT Network. The EPHT Network will integrate environmental
health and public health data for the first time for the purpose of
surveillance and event management.
According to the CDC website, the efforts to develop a
nationwide EPHT “is an important priority…because of the opportunity it
provides to address some of the most challenging problems facing local,
state, and national public health leaders.”
Connecticut
STC
worked with the Connecticut Department of Public Health to
integrate environmental health capabilities with the existing statewide
disease surveillance system. Designed to capture, store, and report
environmental and occupational disease data, the application features
electronic laboratory reporting, data linking, and data inventory to
allow expedited reporting.
Washington, D.C.
STC
worked with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) funded
Washington, D.C. One Stop project. STC is creating a technical plan
that will integrate environmental health data, reduce the burden of
reporting, and provide universal access to electronic reporting.
STC is also developing and installing an Environmental
Facilities Geodatabase. This project will provide the foundation for
the future Environmental Information Exchange Network.
