Chrissie Twomey, BS, MPH
Public Health Advisor
Chrissie is a public health professional with hospital and community health experience at the local, state and international levels. She has spent much of her time devoted to health initiatives targeting underserved women. Chrissie spent a year working at a Liberian refugee camp in Ghana developing a women’s health literacy program and working with a local NGO to establish basic services for these women. She also spent a year in the Republic of the Marshall Islands teaching and evaluating a diabetes intervention program for women and later worked in Saipan conducting an evaluation for the Wise Women Village Health Project. Prior to obtaining her MPH, Chrissie work for Hawaii Pacific Health as a business systems analyst developing, implementing and analyzing an electronic medical record system (EPIC) for three hospitals.

Outside of STC
Chrissie works from Boston, MA, but originally comes from Kailua, HI and grew up paddling and kayaking off the shores of Lanikai. She has also competed in Fiji and Australia and won a national championship in rowing while in college. These days she has taken on new challenges in hiking and skiing throughout New England.
Deborah Allwes, BSN, RN, MPH
Sr. Public Health Advisor
As Director of Public Health Practice for STC, Deborah oversees all of STC’s public health practice collectives, including publications, epidemiological research, study and design, as well as analysis and public health outcome measures. Deborah is an accomplished public health advisor and project manager experienced in managing multiple, complex, and high profile public health projects and programs at the local, state, and national levels. She has expertise in leading and implementing public health and strategic planning, quality improvement initiatives, and providing a vision for the future of public health. Deborah’s background as a Registered Nurse and epidemiologist has given her an intimate knowledge of using public health informatics to build strong public health programs. She is an expert in immunization program building and vaccine-preventable disease prevention. In addition, Deborah has a background in international public health with an intrinsic understanding of developing culturally relevant and sensitive health promotion and disease prevention programs. She serves on the American Immunization Registry Association’s Immunization Information System Assessment committee and has held other state-level executive committee positions. Deborah received her MPH degree from Johns Hopkins University; her BS Nursing degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and her BS in Biochemistry from Gannon University.

Outside of STC
Deborah is an avid volunteer at many local organizations in her town including the public library and the teen center. On her days off she can be found hiking, alpine skiing, snow shoeing, walking her dogs, reading and spending time at the ocean. She continues to study French to refine her French speaking and writing.
Erich Daub, BA, BS
Sr. Public Health Advisor
Erich has been a Senior Public Health Advisor at STC since 2002. After receiving a BS (Emergency Health Services) and a BA (Health Science Policy) from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, he worked as a Research Assistant at the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health. Subsequently he was selected as the first William Haddon, Jr. Doctoral Fellow in Injury Control at Johns Hopkins University.
Erich’s experience includes clinical emergency medicine, serving as a field paramedic and staffing a University Level I trauma center. He has directed injury surveillance (Baltimore County Department of Health), directed Maryland’s Injury Prevention and Control program, and served as senior staff at the National Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health. He has held faculty appointments at the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology at Georgetown, and the Department of Emergency Health Services at the University of Maryland. Erich also was senior staff at the CDC-awarded Center for Public Health Preparedness in DeKalb County (GA). Erich is Past Chair of APHA’s Section on Injury Control and Emergency Health Services.

Erich, a native of Tucson, Arizona, now lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Erich seemed pointed toward a career in music – he recorded and toured nationally with the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus, and began university studies as a theory and composition major. Now, Erich is content to play acoustic guitar, banjo, and, by his own account, feebly flail on his daughter’s mandolin. Otherwise, Erich spends his free time hiking and camping with his family, playing tennis with his son, serving as “support team” for his running 9-year-old daughter (5 Ks) and wife (half marathons), and sea kayaking whenever he can get near an ocean.
Freddie Barber, BA, RN, MSHCA
Sr. Public Health Advisor, Data Exchange Coordinator
Freddie has 25 years of nursing experience in the hospital, clinic and the public health sector. Freddie has experience in group facilitation as a VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America), management experience in the hospital, clinic and public health sectors, and has worked with federal immunization programs as a state coordinator. She has experience teaching and training adults in the in-patient, clinic, and community college setting. Freddie has presented at CDC’s Vaccine University and is currently serving on one of its Expert Panels concerning Immunization Clinical Decision Support. She has also served in Honduras and Haiti as a short-term medical missionary. Freddie received her A.D.N. from Texarkana College, her BA in Anthropology and Sociology from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, an M.S.H.C.A. from Bellevue University and most recently a Certificate in Public Health Informatics from Johns Hopkins University.

Freddie’s love of travel started when she was an exchange student to Japan at age 16 and continued with medical mission trips to Honduras and Haiti. Her favorite travel experience is going to Disney World either alone or with her family. Freddie is currently planning her 7th trip and this time will include grandchildren. She is active in community mass flu clinics, school immunization clinics and has played handbells in local choirs for more than 20 years.
Janet Balog, BS, RN
Sr. Public Health Advisor
Janet is a Senior Public Health Advisor at STC. She received her RN degree from Holy Cross School of Nursing and her BS in Allied Health from St. Francis University, Joliet, IL.
Janet has lived and worked in the South Bend/ Mishawaka IN area her entire life. She joined STC in 2003 where she serves as an expert in vendor export and interoperability. Prior to joining STC, Janet was the Director of the Indiana immunization registry demonstration project. Her clinical background is in Emergency Department Nursing and Hospital Administration. With a desire to know the issues that clinicians encounter with vaccinations, she served as the Director of her immunization coalition for 13 years. This all-volunteer group operates free, after-hour immunization clinics to make vaccinations convenient to get for families. Janet led the Indiana Immunization Coalition for 3 years as Co-Chair.

Janet has been an RN for 39 years, her ultimate work goal is to improve patient care. Personally, she is an avid crafter, loves movies, her 2 mix breed dogs, Heidi and Cassie and spending time with her grandchildren, Allie and Eli. Janet is married with 3 adult children.
Jennifer Simpson, MS, MPH, PhD
Sr. Public Health Advisor
Jennifer holds a PhD in Epidemiology from Yale University, an MPH in Public Health Practice from the University of South Florida, an MS in Medical and Veterinary Entomology from the University of Florida and a B.S. Biology, Virginia Tech.
Jennifer’s background is in epidemiology of emerging infectious disease, specifically outbreak prediction and modeling. She worked for the state of Florida for 4 1/2 years conducting field surveys following arbovirus outbreaks. She was also deeply involved in state-wide hurricane response activities in 2004 and 2005, where Jennifer gained experience in emergency response and recovery. Her dissertation on West Nile virus transmission in the northeastern U.S. focused on predicting the ecological determinants of spill-over to humans. Drawing from a multidisciplinary background including ecology, epidemiological modeling and statistics, Jennifer contributes a unique and well-rounded perspective on public health practice and advising to STC.

Outside of STC
Jennifer loves to travel and enjoy working abroad, with field experience in Venezuela, Dominica, Sierra Leone and Guatemala. She’s originally from the east coast and is an avid rock-climber and snow skier. She takes her now 13 year old Labrador with her everywhere, especially on walks and runs for charities such as the New Haven AIDS Walk and Miles for Multiple Myeloma.
Rebecca Hills, MSPH, PhD
Sr. Public Health Analyst
Rebecca is a Senior Public Health Analyst at STC. Rebecca received her BA in Biology and German from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA, her MSPH from the University of Colorado in Denver and her PhD in Biomedical and Health Informatics from the University of Washington, in Seattle.
Rebecca's dissertation work at the University of Washington used both qualitative and quantitative methods to better understand the information work done in public health, especially work related to immunization. Rebecca also co-teaches a Public Health Informatics course at the Colorado School of Public Health.

Rebecca was born and raised in Alaska and although the snow is harder to find near Seattle, she still enjoys cross-country skiing when the weather permits. In her summer free time you'll find Rebecca paddling in Washington's lakes and backpacking and hiking around the Pacific Northwest. Rebecca also has a Rottweiler mix named Isobel and fosters pit bull terriers for several Seattle area animal rescues.
